Have you seen her?
We’ve all got that one we never should have sold. I myself have a few but this is the one that probably stings the most. This was my Dads truck. The first of Cheverolets new bodied trucks or OBS to be delivered to our town. She was one of of the first two 1987 early build 1988 Chevy trucks received by Walt Davis Cheverolet. My mom would buy the at the time loaded refrigerator white regular cab long bed for my Dads birthday from Walt himself, my dad would later have Walt paint the Gold lower half to match the tan interior and added the diamond plate mud flaps with Gold plated trucker girls. He caught a lot of sideways looks over that addition.
She would much later be the first thing my father ever let me drive, my first burnout. (Both of which happened at the same time). I lost my virginity in the bed of this truck, parked off a ways in the woods one night. This is the truck a few buddies and I packed the bed full of everyones gear and went on our first no parents camping trip in. She was the best and she never let me down.
As I’m sure you can imagine those and countless other stories center in and around this truck. Naturally I would move on to my own vehicles and returned her to my dad only to have her be used and abused by my sibling and other unscrupulous family members.
She was pretty beat when she came back to me as a loaner after a car accident that totaled my then daily. I slowly put her back together fixing the crap water based paint, tightening rattling panels, replacing missing pieces and parts. But I needed something newer and larger and all that harsh treatment was catching up with her. So with Dads blessing I sold her to help with my down payment on a 2002 extended cab GMC Sierra. that sinking pit in my stomach reinforced what I already knew, I’d messed up as soon as I handed off the keys.
Off and on I think about her, wondering how she’s doing. If I’d ever see her again, if I’d be able to buy her back if I did. And then @American Racing wheels came out with their new VF516 a wheel that reminds me of one of the designs popular in the late 90s around when I first started driving her. Of coarse the wheels started turning and the included sketch came out....
So I gotta ask... anyone? Have you seen her? Is she still around? I miss her, I’m real sorry I let her go and if she came back I’d surely treat her right.
