Well if you follow me on Facebook you've probably seen the accident. After spending the day at Ultra Truckworks pre flighting Sonomair for a trip down to The Deadend Magazine Custom Capitol show. I thought it'd be nice to cruise main street of my old home town and run through my favorite coffee spot Dutch Bros on Elk Griove Blvd. After getting coffee for my dauighter and I, when exiting the parking lot a guy more interested in his cell phone than anyone elses life or property hit us. Smashing into the drivers rear quarter crushing the bed from behind the axel on the drivers rear quarter. Thankfully my Daughter and I seem fine. I had some extra tightness in my Back and Neck but Ricks Sonomair being hurt was the worst of it.

As I said on my Podcast when you take on being the caretaker of someone elses baby it's a special responsibility and a double edged sword. There are the obvious pluses of buying a finsihed ride. You get the instant gratification of getting to drive a finished vehicle that you have loved from afar. It's cool to meet folks your buddy knew and hear stories about him and the truck you might not have heard or even hearing the same story but from a differant perspective. Keeping someones memory alive is an honor, its a special thing. Sure there are downsides as well. Like how much can you change before its no longer what it was? What changes are acceptable? The worst part about driving someone elses baby especially one that is so important to your local scene is when it gets messed up on your watch.
Thankfully I hadn't put the Boyds back on yet so they are safe! Also the Bed Cover seems un affected but until I can get it to a body shop and we can get things straighted out I wont know how bad things are. Hopefully the frame and axel/suspension werent damaged but only time will tell.

Thankfully I have Grundy classic car insurance. They are aware of how special this truck is. Of its Street Trucks magazine feature and time as a SEMA vehicle. So we will see how things shake out. Hopefully Ill be able to find a shop that understands and can bring Ricks Sonomair back as good or better than it was under Ricks Stewardship.
