I am embarrassed that this didn't get posted back when it was announced. As a one man show sometimes things slip through the cracks and this is one of those things. I was going through my drafts and... well it's here now. I am however extremely stoked for this movie to happen. Although I'd much rather see a series liked the One Piece and Last Avatar series that Netflix is doing. The comic ran for so long getting it all in one movie is just too tall an order.
The automotive inter webs seems abuzz with the announcement of the Fast and Furious actor now director Sun Kang set to work on a live action version of Initial D. Some of you old timers might not be familiar. But this is a great series that unlike Fast And Furious, Initial D managed to genuinely stay about the cars and relationships built around them. If you're not into Anime, or imports that'd be understandable that you missed it.
As long as he is able to hold true, Initial D is a pretty great story. it's about a kid raised by his strict (somewhat abusive) father who runs a tofu shop. The old man is an almost forgotten local racing legend on the mountain pass between his Tofu shop and the resort that his shop delivers to. The old guy, either because of his penchant for drinking or genuine desire to train his son to drive, or maybe both? He decides to have his son deliver the Tofu every morning despite not being old enough to drive. Like Most kids do, the son views the daily commute as a required chore. Every morning getting up before the crack of dawn to make the delivery and ba back in time to get to school. The time crunch naturally drives him to wAnt to make the run faster and faster so he can do his own thing. As the kids times get faster the father imporoves the car... I think you see were this is going. I wont push on ruining the story but trust me it's worth your time. I hope the movie will be as well!
