With the war or “military action” going on in Ukraine I, along with all of you have been watching Nato employ it's sanctions. As part of that they are seizing yachts of the Russian insanely rich. Long term followers will know in pursuit of my love for all things cool I’ve been known to lurk around the yachting interwebs. Again I’ve no interest in discussing the ramifications of the political action or the similarities between US and Russian elites. What I’m tripping out on, besides the sheer opulence of these floating palaces is what comes next? I am not really a boat guy but I assume even at the Dr. Evil level there is a used yacht broker or something some were that would facilitate the resale. But when the boats are this big and lets be real here, this bespoke. What happens to them? Let alone all stuff inside? The furniture the art the wine, cigar and vodka cellars? Yacht A the largest sailing yacht in the world was just seized and that bitch is eight stories tall!!! That’s 8 stories of carpet or wood and couches and pictures and on and on. You can’t tell me if you were to pick this thing up send hand you wouldn’t want to make some changes? What about all the toys they seem to have? Tender boats, jet skis, teeny goddamned submarines!?!? Can you imagine parting one of these out? Owned by the unfathomably rich, who knows what secret armories and stolen Art might be in there? Hell one yacht seized recently was reportedly outfitted with military grade anti missile defenses! And since these yachts are being seized all over the world will they be sailed to a big used yacht lot in the sea? Do the individual countries keep them? Lets say that they are put up for resale and you recently sold an app or startup to amazon or Facebook for billions over night… Would you have the balls to buy an ex Oligarchs coveted plaything and sail it around? I feel like that’s asking for assassination? Maybe these guys will just buy then yachts back at fire sale prices? Maybe they'll sail them all to Europe tie them all together and use them to house displaced refugees from Ukraine?
