Why I bought a Honda Rukus.

Let me start by saying, I come from a motorcyclist family. My grandfather rode Indian back when motorcycles where new, a novelty. Back when Indian VS Harley was fight on sight. Much to my grandfathers Dismay my dad would bring a harley home as his first. Grandpa was so pissed he wouldn't let my dad park it on the property. My dad had to chain/hide it at the end of the several acres long driveway. Dad would ride Harleys until AMF took over and he switched to Gold Wings. The look on my dads face when I pulled my first street bike an Indian Chief... I rode right up into his garage for him to see for the first time is something I'll never forget.

Now I'm a father myself and my kids are getting to the age that it's time to introduce them to the family tradition. After much thought and debate, I scored the perfect bike for them both to learn on a Honda Rukus.

Hear me out.

The Rukus is 49cc automatic scooter with some off-road/trail chops. so its as unintimidating as can be. Not only that but it can be ridden street and trail. This is important as my oldest, my daughter isn't as bold and adventurous as her little brother. Of coarse I want her to be as comfortable as possible and build her skills slow and steady. The Rukus is perfect for that. Now my son on the other hand... Well he's got the Family showboat gene. This kid is me all the way, so 49cc's of speed in fury is perfect for him as well. Oh I know will be stunting hard as he can soon, at least it will be at (I pray) far from lethal speeds.

I gave the bike to the kids on Christmas day but its been raining buckets up here. That wasn't gonna stop her though. Between storms on Christmas Day, after a quick walk through and practice in the garage. My Daughter was not only riding, but feet up turning and maneuvering within three passes. Her trepidation gone faster than I could have hoped. In the short time she had for her first ride she went from scared to laughing and only quit when the rain came back. She spent the rest of the day staring out the window in hopes a break in the storm. I couldn't have been more proud. My son is still a bit to small to ride the Rukus on his own, but he's chompin at the bit for his shot.

Another reason I chose the Honda Rukus, its got an insane aftermarket support. Do a quick image search for "Honda Rukus Custom" and you'll be blown away. Folks are goin pretty hard on these suckers. Why this is important to me should be obvious. I am hoping that as the kids get used to and hopefully attached to the lil scoot that we can start Customizing it together as well. BOOM two birds one stone! Only time will tell. But I think I've found the perfect gateway to get my kids to at least appreciate my automotive obsession.

Fingers Crossed, but so far so good!
